Summary
Evelyn Salt is a CIA agent and highly respected by all, including her
boss, Ted Winter. Out of the blue, a Russian spy walks into their
offices and offers a vital piece of information: the President of Russia
will be assassinated during his forthcoming visit to New York City to
attend the funeral of the recently deceased U.S. Vice President. The
name of the assassin: Evelyn Salt.
My opinion Quote Peabody: How many more like you are there?
Salt: Like me? None. Like him? More than you or I can handle alone.
Do you need a bit of salt here? Yep, preferably withlarge grains, becauseyou need thatwhenyou watch this movie.Do not expect arealistic movie, because then you'll be disappointed."Salt" is a excellentspyaction moviethatrageslike aTGV. Fromthe momentSaltis accused ofthe factthat she is aRussian spywhohasbeen speciallytrainedby someRussianextremist whohas deviseda masterplanto giveorphansa U.S.educationand then send them to the U.S.to wait for"Day X" after which theyeachperformtheirspecific job, it all goesvery fast. Before you know it, you've been watching this movie for half an hour. The actionscenes aremasterfullyportrayed andfollow each other inrapid succession.
Some scenes are a bit over the top and hard to believe. The jumping from one truck to another makes you scratch your head after a while. The floating down in an elevator shaft looks awful and ridiculously unrealistic. As Salt supposedly eliminates the Russian president, she's removed from there in a police car with two extra patrol cars. I think in reality, half the U.S. military would accompany her. The part where she manipulates the driver with the taser to accelerate and steer is hopelessly laughable.
And then there is the remarkable fact how she recovers after several terrible blows and
hits, and then starts runningagain like a trainedOlympicathlete. Besides
, I do think that if Angelina Jolie would participate again in another action
movie that involves scenes where she has to run a lot, she better takes a personal trainer
to teach her a bit more running techniques. At times she looks like a running broomstick with huge weights on her ankles .
I'm not a big "Angelina Jolie"-fan. Yes shehas a certain charisma and yes she has a wonderfullysensuallookin her eyes. Butmore than onceIcaught myselfwith the thoughtthat she would be sticking to a wall withthose biglips of her, after beingsmackedagainst itby an opponent. In fact she really looked like a walking anorexicpatientandactually asked myself how the hellshe could handle those tough trainedguys. In reality, she wouldbecrushed likean annoyingfly.
The storyon itsownis incrediblypredictable andtotallyinnovative.Eventhe sabotaging at the lastmoment of anuclearattack has been used ad nauseam. Also the fact that her partnerTed is aresultoftheRussianbreeding ground is something youalso sawcominga mile away. The onlyplottwist thatwas inthismovie waswhen she plantedthe brokenbottle inthe Adam's appleof Orlov. Until thatvery momentIwas surethat shewas indeed aspy. LievSchreiberdidn't make asmashingimpression.Thewhole movie he was aparagon ofmeasuredcoolnesswith a pronouncedstoicexpression onhis face.
All in alla relaxingaction movie with athinstory andimprobabilities that blows you away. I only foundthe endactuallybrilliant andan outspokenopen endto makea sequel.Andaccording toIMDbit's alreadyin the making. For medefinitelya filmyou can'tskip.
Cast : Matt Damon : Max Jodie Foster : Delacourt Sharlto Copley : Kruger
Director :
Neill Blomkamp
Summary
In the year 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who
live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest,
who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Delacourt, a
government official, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration
laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium.
That doesn't stop the people of Earth from trying to get in by any means
they can. When unlucky Max is backed into a corner, he agrees to take
on a daunting mission that, if successful, will not only save his life
but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
My opinion
Android : What is in the bag?
Max: Hair care products, mostly.
Lately weare getting quite spoiledinthe SFarea.Elysiumis a pessimisticview of thefuture with an overpopulatedearth with the knownproblems. Elysiumisan artificialoasis of tranquilitywhere onlybillionaires can buy a place to live. Each home isequipped with a"cure-bed" so that all theinhabitants can enjoy ahealthyand disease-free life. The less fortunate stayed onEarth and tryto survive inan unhealthypoor environment under strict supervisionofdroids.
You can obviously sense the paternalisticsocialmessage of thewidening gapbetween rich and poor. It's illegalto try toreachElysium. It makes you think ofthe border betweenMexicoandthe U.S. whichat this very momentpeoplestill try tocross so they can exchange the poverty with amoreblessed future.Furthermore,I see it as areflectionofthehealthcareas it is known nowin the U.S. Thosewho canafford it,getthe best treatment.
I've never seen the movie "District9"(but now it's surely on my list), and haveno ideawhether "Elysium" looksidentical.I mustadmit thattheCGIis spectacular. The design of theresidential areason the Earth, the immensefactorywheredroidsare assembled, thedroidsthemselves lookflashyandsexy, thevehicles used(especially thescene withCarlyle'stransport) are magnificent, Elysiumitself isstaggeringlybrilliantlyimagedandtheroboticarmor thatMax getsisstunninglyrealistic. The visuals areactually almostas stunning asin "Oblivion". Theaction clipsare sensational filmed andthe used weaponryfits perfectly with therest of theentire movie. The movie has adamnhigh rate andmakesyou siton theedge of your seat.
The content ofthe movie and thestoryare so cliched and told insimilar movies (but you can always come up with that argument).Theoverpopulatedworldreminded me ofthat one in"Dredd". And the separation betweenrich and poor was also shown in "Upside Down". The charactersarea list ofstereotypes: an ex-prisoner back on a straight pathandwho became adecentcitizenearning his dailybreadby doing a shittyjob. Of course he will be thehero ofthe story. For me it's also a sort oflove story withthe obligatorylittle nurseand a gangof ruthlesscriminals who'llchasehimuntil theydrop dead.
Therewerealso somethings thatwere absolutely ridiculous. There's radioactivity inthe plantandeveryone works withoutprotective clothing? Ok, they were allpeoplewhoare negligible andcan be replacedby others. But where is theradioactivitywhenthedroids are assembled? Spidercould have already usedthat instrumentthathe put onMax and used one of hishenchmento forma super-killing machine ! Arriving onElysiumisillegal and notso simplesinceall is terriblyguarded, butwhen everythingcomes online again, Spider canland there quite easily. Kruger'shead isalmostcompletelyblown offbya grenade, buthisbrainsare stillfunctioningso he can be fully restored.Okay, it'scalledSFbut that wasa bit over the top. Especially whenafterwards Delacourtdiesof an innocent stabbing woundinthe neck. Well, must have beena retaliation for her badacting performance.
Yes lets talk about the acting now. Matt Damondid it againon autopilot andit wasa joytosee him again inanaction-packedrole like "Bourne".The "worstacting performanceever"-nomination goes to Foster. Isometimeshad the impression thatshe was adroid. Inspiration-free conversations, a ridiculousaccentand she madeno impressionas the cruel andunfeelingSecretary ofDefense. For me,Krugerwas themost colorfulperson in thismovie. Surprisinglyhe sangaDutchsounding songat a given time. After a bit ofreading on the net, i found out it was South African. Inany case,it was a perfectportrayal of aderangedandcannymercenary who is usedto do the dirty jobs.Theyoung nurseand herdaughtersufferingfrom leukemiaunfortunately only were used forthecornypart. Luckily they didn't go to far in using a possiblelove story betweenherandMax. To methey werejustchildhood friendswhohavegrown apart.
Conclusion: Afirst-rateSF withextremelytitillatingimages witha social messageand mixed withatouchingtheme thatcallsfor ahappy ending. The only sad thingis thatMaxdies...He's probablyspending his time nowat theElysian fieldsamong all the otherblessed.

forced by his boss to go to Mexico to pick up a load of marijuana. In
order to improve his odds of making it past the border, David asks the
broke stripper Rose and two local teenagers to join him and pretend
they're on a family holiday.
My opinion
You can buy a house and run away from it.
"We're the Millers" fits perfectly with the rest of the comedies (Pain & Gain, The Internshipand TheHeat) I've seen. Iexpected itwouldbearelaxingevening watchinga movieafterastressful week. Finally maybe a flick that would make me burst out in a series ofdissipativelaughter.Unfortunately as withtheotherfilmsthere was not much to laugh about.
Overall it was a fun movie with some witty one-liners and funny situations, but this was too much overshadowed by quite vulgar and downright ridiculous conversations. Average entertainment content with sometimes a feeling that the scriptwriters wanted to make it tremendously easy for themselves by using hackneyed gags that have already been used several times in other films. Cheesy sexual insinuating conversations seem funny to most people (and usually I'm amused by it too). So it's understandable it's commonly used in comedies, but you shouldn't overdo it! If you have used another insinuation to the concept of "penis" (and related activities), it becomes more boring than funny. It was a "Meet the Fockers" imitation, but with the "Brady Bunch" family. I always find it strange anyway if I have to laugh more with the bloopers in the credits than the film itself.
Well you can't blame the cast. Most of them played their character masterfully. The name Jason Sudeikis didn't ring a bell immediately, but he also had a small role in "Movie 43". And sorry, but that movie is cataloged by me as the most crappy movie ever produced. But again it's proofed that's besides the point because he plays a starring role with a perfect timing. Jennifer Anniston will never be able to shake off the inheritance from "Friends." Although in this movie she almost managed not to resemble "When-I-am-extremely-mad-I-start-to-jump-on-my-feet" Rachel. She treats us also with a breathtaking strip dance and shows in that way that she still has extremely sensual looks for her 44 with some imaginative curves. ( I can't understand why Brad left her and exchanged her for "big lips" Jolie ). Emma Roberts wasn't the funny part of the artificial family, but that suited the character more.
Then there are the persons that stand out. And that is in the first place Will Poulter. This guy had some hilarious moments and mastered a brilliant mimic. My favorite moment (and the first thing I had to chuckle about) is the TLC moment with "Chasing Waterfalls". If it was according to the script he did a brilliant job. But if this was a sudden inspiration and improvisation, then I call the man a genius. For me, the savior of this film. Without the nerdy, dry and "stupid looking around him" Kenny this would be a totally meaningless film.
And in the second place "Scottie P.". A negligible role, but so hilarious and stupid. They should have put these scenes in the run of the film and then continued on this momentum.
And then the most vexing roles were for me Kathryn Hahn who made me think of Kitty Forman, the mother from "That 70's Show". She was getting on my nerves with that hyper kinetic cooing. And I would love to hit Ed Helms a few times with that ice sculpture and feed him to his killer whale. What an annoying brat he was. And I want to mention MollyC.Quinnquickly because of hermagicalappearance.
A film with no surprisesanda predictable development, with strongand funny moments, but generallya blandcontent. It was however slightly betterthan most ofthe crapthat I have seen lately.

My opinion
Pray for the best, but prepare for the worst.
Mywifewanted to watch another thriller. Andwhat athrillerit was ultimately. With athrillerof suchhigh levelas "Prisoners", my wife starts to surfthe internet so she can readtheplot. She begins toget nervousand says in a indignantway that everythingtakes far toolong andwasterriblystretched.
"Prisoners" isareal nail-biting movieand actuallya mix of apsychological dramawith aheart-poundingsuspense and a dash ofhorror.A mix of"Mystic River" andevery topmovie where aserial killer is hunted down like "The Silence of the Lambs" ormore recently"The FrozenGround". The viewer isconfrontedwith terriblequestions of conscience. How farwouldyougo whenyourdearest person istaken away? Would youdare to take the law into your ownhandsandcommitdegradingactsto findthe truth ?We are also witnessingthedesperation andhelplessness thataninvestigatorofsuch crimesfeels.
HughJackmanplays therole of thefatherin despair, KellerDover, with lot of enthusiasm. He showsa persontorn byfranticrage andimmense sadnessbecause hefirstlosthislovabledaughterand secondlyfailsas a householderwho said hecould protecthis family against anything. His wifeGrace, played byMariaBello, gets in a depressed stateas the daysare progressing. Sleep andantidepressantsare the only thingsthat can stillhelp her.Theremaining sonlooks atit all froma distance andwatches overGracewhileKelleris constantlyabsent. We also get a view of the other familyBirch , especially Franklin Birch who helps Kellerwith hisdesperateplanafterwards, but theiremotions arenotas detailed unraveled as those oftheDover's.
It all begins with the disappearance of the daughters Anna and Joy when the two families celebrate Thanksgiving. The two girls had played that afternoon nearby a white mobile-home parked in front of the door which is now no longer visible. A police description is passed around and that same evening the mobile-home is spotted on a parking lot of a gas station. This is the moment Detective Loki comes into the picture. For me a huge achievement in terms of acting by Jake Gyllenhaal. Amazing how he portrays the inspector. The
passion, the tics and the way he puts his teeth into the case, while
sometimes it seems as if it doesn't really interests him. How
careless he reads text messages and seemingly almost writes
down nothing. When Grace makes a remark about that, he starts writing something in his notebook in a careless way. The fact is, that so far he has solved all the cases that were given to him. The driver of the mobile home is trying to escape and eventually arrested. The car is searched but nothing is found. What
remains is the meaningless and confused explanation of the twenty years old Alex
Jones, who has a mental retardation and the IQ of a 10 year old. Due
to a lack of evidence they need to release Alex, while Keller is firmly convinced that Alex is guilty and should not go unpunished. When Alex uses the sentence "They only cried when i left", Keller loses control and forgets every Christian commandment although he normally holds on to that as a devout christian.
He even exceeds the bounds of humanity in such a way that a return is impossible.
And this isthe most importantmoral question of this movie. Would you torture someone, you'resure of he'sguilty, so you can find outthe truth. As a father I am convinced thatthe disappearance ofyour daughter is the worst you can experienceas a human being. An inhumannightmare. And after hearing thepronouncedsentence, whichis open to interpretation, I also wouldbecapable ofdoing such a thing. Even if itshouldturn outthat the personis innocent.
The course of the film is painfully and annoyingly slow. Maybe
a cinematic portrayal of the excruciatingly long time parents of
missing children need to endure while waiting for positive news. It'salsological andinsightfulput together.Successively, we have to deal with the discovery of the remains of a child
rapist in the basement of a priest, a copycat who eventually seizes the
opportunity to shoot a bullet through his brains and the
final denouement which wasn't totally unexpected but because of the prior still surprising. Several times I read about the fact that there are quite a few holes in the scenario, and things turn out to be wrong. I can't put my finger directly on any flaw in this movie. The
mystery of the maze is that I think there really isn't one but
just a perception in the mind of both a retarded boy and an abused
boy. The latter looked at this image (also the medallion of the deceased father) for
years. The only thing that I was still wondering about are the snakes. Do they have a particular symbolic meaning ? Also the unprofessional actions of the law enforcement officers bothered me. The superintendent wasn't much of a help in solving the case. And in such an important criminal case , I certainly wouldn't leave the prime suspect unattended. And I think the aunts house would be searched through thoroughly.
Final conclusion: In my opinion this was the best movie I watched in 2013. Apoignant, terribleemotionally movie with astrongstoryline, engagedin acinematicdepresseddecor with itsgreyishtones andperpetualdrizzleandcarried by atop cast. It showsonce again showsthat there are totallysick minds that inhabitour planet, and that religionis usedagainas an excuseto condone it.

My opinion
I've heard stories of Earth. A paradise. Until we destroyed it.
As aSFfan Ifound theimages shown inthis film sometimessimply beautiful. The landscapes, futuristic buildingsandhigh-techspaceship. Not that theimages couldmatchthat of"Oblivion". Andthat's about it, because thestoryon itsownwas prettyboring ,annoying, not exactly masterfuland inventive.
Themagic boxwith computereffects was usedrepeatedlyand delivered somegems ofimages. Like thefree fallandthepursuit bythegiant eagle. Thepartin the nestwith the attackby the lionswasalsonicely done. Onlythe Ursascouldn't convinceme. The storywas predictableand monotonous. It surprisedme thatthe gianteagle didn't return Jaden out of gratitude.
Aboutthe acting I can be short and concise. Will Smithsroledidn't need any performance skills. Setting upanemotionlessexpression on his face the whole time isn't that hard to do. No fear andno feelings. A military commander, whofollowshis sonremotely after thecrash andgives advice once and a while. The onlyacting he showed waswhen he had toput on apainful grimaceandexperiencesflashbacks. AboutJadenI can be even shorter: he paid verygood attentionto his father'sperformances inother films. A plasticface withouta lot ofemotions and no acting talent. Apparentlythis movie and the help of his father is just a way to lead him to eternalfame.
I likemost movies in which WillS.actsandI think thatthe weak pointin this movie is his sonJaden. In"The Pursuit of Happiness" it wasbearable. But that was because of hischildlikeinnocence, I guess.
